|Strap on a pair of rental snowshoes and explore winter along the Charles!|
Don’t own the gear? That’s no reason to miss out on the fun!
Another snowstorm is predicted to hit New England in a few days, and although that often means bundling up inside with a warm drink and a book, it can also be a great opportunity to try a new winter sport.
Like many of you, I don’t have a car but that doesn’t have to mean missing out on the winter fun. Always wanted to try snowshoeing or cross-country skiing but don’t have the gear? You’re in luck because there are many options to rent equipment within close proximity to the parklands – and even though the Department of Conservation & Recreation and New Balance are doing a fantastic job of keeping the pathways plowed, there is still plenty of deep snow in which to play.
Rentals are available at locations along the Charles River accessible by public transportation:
o Eastern Mountain Sports: 1041 Commonwealth Avenue – at the Babcock Street T stop on the Green Line
o Wilderness House: 1048 Commonwealth Avenue – also at the Babcock Street T stop on the Green Line
o REI: 401 Park Drive – at the Fenway T stop, parking available and only a 10 minute walk to the river
If any of our readers know of additional rental locations, let us know. We hope you have a great day outdoors!
